Breastfeeding class for couples

During pregnancy, as we read along pregnancy books and childbirth readings, we take note all the things we could do so as we can make our pregnancy experience wonderful while ensuring that the baby develops healthy inside the womb. An expectant mom do all the necessary preparations such as taking monthly routine examinations, pregnancy scans, 4d scan and a lot more. One thing that should never be missed out is taking breastfeeding class. But how can attending a breastfeeding class makes a difference in taking care of your child?

Breastfeeding is the only form of feeding infants and children before the twentieth century. However as lifestyle and socio-culture changes with more women working and having strong careers, using bottled milk is seen as a more convenient means to feed a baby. Additionally, as aggressive advertisements on infant formula milk pop-ups in the tri-media, more mothers are attracted in the hope that their baby develops into what is being portrayed in the ads. Since most of these ads are misleading, health experts and authorities strongly recommend breast milk as the best form of nourishment to a baby.

Breast milk is the best nourishment that a baby can have. It has the right nutrients and protein that are necessary in his growth and development. Moreover, this  makes the immune system stronger and lower the risks of cardiovascular and respiratory problems that the baby can acquire. But in order for the baby to get adequate milk from the mother, the mother should be able to make breastfeeding effective and breastfeeding class is a great support to be able to achieve this.

Cradling is the most common position to breastfeed a baby. However, not all mothers and babies are comfortable with it. Taking a breastfeeding class will let you learn other positions to breastfeed and techniques to make breastfeeding effective. This ensures that the baby gets adequate breast milk during each session. Also breastfeeding lessons will help you learn how to avoid sore nipples and other infant problems that could be avoided with proper breastfeeding.

Most breastfeeding lessons are being provided by hospitals but there are also private establishments that could give you these lessons. Both couples are encouraged to join the class so as to make the support stronger for the expectant mom. Also having another set of ears will grasp the discussions better.

There are a lot of things to prepare during pregnancy. Aside from ensuring that your baby is healthy in the womb, expectant moms should also prepare themselves in nourishing their baby after childbirth.

Pregnancy complication: Urinary tract infection

Urinary tract infection is one of the most common infections that a person experiences. Most often, those who are sexually active and have poor toilet habit are prone to the infection. This type of infection is caused by bacteria that enter the urinary tract. The urine itself however does not contain bacteria but can be infected when the bacteria enter through a medium like during sexual intercourse or when having improper wiping after bowel movement. UTI also known as bladder infection is however more frequent in women than in men because of the anatomical structure of the female body where the anus is near the urethra.  Aside from bacterial infection, allergies and even pregnancy can be the reason for the bladder infection.

During pregnancy, the uterus increase in size and weight to prepare itself for the growth and development of the baby inside the womb. With the uterus just above the urinary tract however, it can create complications as the drainage can be blocked with the increase weight.

Some of the symptoms that a person with this infection can observe are blood in the urine, little urine and feeling of urgency to urinate often, cloudy urine and pain in the lower abdomen.

Urinary tract infection can cause low birth weight and early child birth when it is not immediately treated.

To treat bladder infection, antibiotics may be prescribed. However this is only when the infection is verified through urinalysis. Urinalysis is a laboratory test where the urine is examined and studied for possible infection. If the prescribed antibiotics fail, the physician may request for urine culture to define the strain of bacteria that is causing the infection and properly recommend the right medication for the infection.

To prevent urinary tract infections, here are the most recommended measures by doctors to avoid UTI:

1.    Have the habit to urinate when you need to.
2.    Have proper toilet habit and wipe from front to back.
3.    Us e cotton type of underwear instead of nylon. Avoid wearing tight pants often.
4.    Drink a lot of water every day.

With this information that you have learned about the effect of urinary tract infection to pregnancy and how can it be recognized, you should have valued the importance of having proper toilet habits and drinking water often. Have the right discipline and enjoy a healthy pregnancy.

A glass of milk during pregnancy can make a difference on the health of your baby and of yours. Other sources of calcium are dairy products and vegetables such as broccoli and okra. Essence of Folic Acid during pregnancy

The health of an expectant mom is very crucial to a healthy development and growth of the baby inside the womb. This is the reason why it is important that a pregnant woman has enough nutrition to sustain the baby. If are pregnant and you have been researching on how to make a healthy pregnancy, you may have come across the term folic acid. What is folic acid and how does it affects your pregnancy?

Folic acid is a B-vitamin and soluble in water. It takes charge on the repair of DNA structures in the body and affects the development of the baby during the childbearing years. Folic acid is found on fruits and green vegetables such as are oranges, peas, asparagus, broccoli, nuts and okra.

Deficiency in folic acid may lead to congenital birth defects affecting the brain and the spinal cord. Among the development problems that may rise are spina bifida and anencephaly. These birth defects come from neural tube development problems that happen as a result of folic acid deficiency two weeks after you got pregnant. Neural tube problems can be severely disabling and can be fatal.

Although this type of B-vitamin is water soluble and overdose is not possible as the excess can be removed from the body through the urine, some studies continue to link respiratory problems of a baby due to overdose in folic acid during the pregnancy period. In relevance to this, the FDA issued a recommendation to under 1000 mcg consumption of folic acid per day.

The recommended amount of folic acid a day is 400 micrograms and is essential when you are trying to conceived. This minimizes the possibility of developing birth defects in particular, spinal problems by 70%.

Sufficient amount of folic acid in the body helps prevent heart problems, stroke, aids in memory loss and helps in proper body functioning. Also this lessen the risks of anemia when you are pregnant and miscarriage.

After being able to read on this, you should be able to realize the importance of folic acid in the body especially during pregnancy. So munch on fruits and vegetables and stay healthy!
